It’s Funny Now Hits Hiawatha, KS!

Monday, February 6th, 2017

Growing up I had the privilege of helping my father out on his Tobacco farm in Lexington, Ky. When that was slow,  I took care of the grounds on Dan Issel’s Thoroughbred farm “Cortland”. On both farms John Deere had a hefty presence. So, it was a great feeling to share some laughs and a little “patrolling” with Hiawatha Implement  in Mound City, MO and Hiawatha, KS recently.

“Recently, I had the honor of performing for the customers of Hiawatha Implement in KS & MO.

Here is what they had to say about my show, “It’s Funny Now”:

“Rik Roberts was very professional, but also personable. He is a fun guy off stage, too. His Barney imitation was a hit and entering the audience area in an old Cop car let everyone know he arrived. During his stage performance, many folks laughed non-stop. He was a HIT. Later in the show, Rik started some audience participation which was hilarious. We were very well pleased and would recommend Rik for very clean comedy.”

Powell Seeds – Customer Appreciation Field Day

Thursday, August 25th, 2016

Sometimes you pull up to an event and you can just tell it’s going to be fun. That was the case in Converse, IN recently when I had the privilege of performing for local farmers and clients of Powell Seeds. Powell Seeds is a great, family run business that has served the area farmers for decades. If you live in Central Indiana, you owe it to yourself to call upon Powell Seeds for your corn and soybean needs.

US POULTRY & EGG

This all-feather organization has your best interests in mind. This was the second time I had the privilege of speaking to the group. With feed mill managers coming from all across the US, this seminar helps update the members on new regulations, developments and quality control steps.

I was happy to infuse some humor showing how a light hearted moment around the work place can increase productivity, facilitate problem solving and make work a place you want to be. Thanks US PULTRY & EGG!

Small Town Big Deal

Sometimes things in life line up perfectly. I spent last week on a cruise ship entertaining fans of the tv show “SMALL TOWN BIG DEAL”. The TV show brings uplifting stories to viewers across America. It’s really, really good.

The hosts Rodney Miller and Jann Carl are a great pair and they took a chance on having me be part of their “family” for a week. I got to perform a one hour comedy show and patrolled several times as “Barney Fife”. It was just a blast.

This group was on a VINTAGE TRACTOR cruise and my audience was primarily farmers with a huge affection for International Harvester. They were 140 strong and the nicest people you have ever met.

Also performing on the cruise for this private group was Annie & the Orphans as well as Penny Gilley (Mickey’s second cousin). Great music and fun times.

Just wanted to let everyone know they should check out the tv show. It airs on the RFD-TV NETWORK and is growing in Syndication across the country. Look them up!

One Bullet in the Chamber

Monday, November 25th, 2013

I have a ton of fun performing what I call a “combo show”. This is an event where I appear either before the stand-up show or afterwards as Barney Fife. Guests get an extra suprise and event planners get value added treat.

I don’t know how Elvis impersonators feel when they show up somewhere decked out in jump suits and lamb chops. But I hope they get half the positive energy I receive when I put on the holster and badge. Everyone (except one guy in Houtson) loves Barney Fife and has great memories of The Andy Griffith Show. I get to hear about favorite episodes, chance meetings with cast members and I occasionally get a glimpse of a collection from an avid fan.

As I roam around I hear the chuckles and excitement. I pose for pictures and write tickets. Yes, most people ask if I have a bullet – and I do! Once I forgot to bring it and I never heard the end of it. “You can’t be Fife without a bullet!” I just told them that Obama took it and there’s not much I can do about it.

Jamestown, ND Chamber of Commerce

Recently I got to do this combo show in Jamestown, ND. The event was for the Chamber of Commerce and was an appreciation banquet for the farming community. I couldn’t help but think of how much we owe to the farmers who are out there in the blistering heat and bitter cold working to provide food for all of us. I grew up helping out on a Tobacco farm. Although it isn’t a food source, Tobacco pretty much enabled our country to develop and prosper. It’s trade value alone was enough to settle many territories.

So, as you light up a smoke or pour milk over your Wheaties, think of a farmer who gives his all to provide for you. And whenevI’ll bring my bullet and jokes to privide a well deserved laugh for these hard working folks.
